Schools

Kingfisher Treasure Seekers is passionate about reaching children and young people to offer support and help educate about matters of inclusion, mental health and social entrepreneurship. See below for our full schools offering.

Training Courses

We can offer a range of courses which we can run in school for groups of students or we can train and resource staff within the school to run the sessions.

Expand

We can offer various courses to either students or parents as appropriate:

  • Leadership First Steps - mostly covering the skills needed for self-leadership which ensures an authentic leadership of others.
  • Building Better Relationships - looking at what constitutes a healthy relationship. This course has been designed to support people to be less vulnerable to CSE, 'mate' hate crime, or being exploited in any other way. It gives people the tools to spot a toxic relationship and supports people in developing healthy relationships.
  • Better Budgeting - A short course to help people manage money more effectively
  • Springboard - A confidence building course
  • Beat the Bugs - A course, developed with Public Health England, to help people stay healthy and to self-care when ill.

We can train staff in schools to run these courses, and all resources will soon be available to order from this website enabling you to run them as frequently and for as small a group as needed.

Mentoring

We can offer a limited mentoring service to young people who frequently access The Cavern.

Expand

For those students accessing The Cavern independently, we can offer a limited mentoring service. This service is available particularly for those students who have one or more risk factors; on the edge of criminality, vulnerable to CSE or domestic violence, have mental health problems and are not being supported elsewhere or are homeless..

We work closely with Gloucestershire Constabulary and are keen to work in partnership with schools as appropriate, in order to ensure consistency of approach.

Please contact us for more information.

Placements within School Time

We have, with great success, partnered with local schools to create placement programmes for individuals struggling to maintain attendance or with extremely poor attainment.

Expand

These programmes are designed to give individuals a different learning environment whereby we can particularly focus on building confidence, social and communication skills, work based skills and designed to maximise attendance. We work closely with schools to ensure it is fit for purpose and ensure constant communication. We can also work with a multi-agency approach, attending professionals meetings as necessary.

We have utilised this approach with young people in the process of gender transition. Students have found it helpful to spend some time in a supportive space apart from classmates. This helps to build confidence and allows space for the young person to feel more comfortable before attending school.

Please contact us if you want to talk through whether this approach may be of benefit.

Work Experience

Kingfisher Treasure Seekers runs around 30 different activities/projects which are geared towards different cohorts. We can usually find a meaningful work experience placement for everyone!

Expand

We are especially keen to support students who lack confidence, struggle with aspirational thinking or who are struggle to find a fit. Our organisation is passionate about volunteering and supporting volunteers to get the most out of any placement. We won the Queen's Award for Voluntary Service in 2017 which indicates the difference our volunteers make to the local community.

We have all necessary policies and procedures in place (which can be viewed/sent upon request) to ensure a safe and productive work experience/voluntary placement.

People can apply for work experience or volunteering here or contact us if you want to discuss a possible placement.

Business Class Talks

Kingfisher Treasure Seekers is a social enterprise, based in Gloucester. We can speak to students to inform and hopefully inspire as to another model of business.

Expand

Kingfisher Treasure Seekers was incorporated in June 2012 as a social enterprise. We began with just one part time member of staff and since then have seen our organisation grow and develop. It has not always been easy, but seeing lives changed on a daily basis helps keep us on track. We are passionate about the model of social enterprise and love sharing with business men and women of the future this alternative to for-profit business models.

Contact us with your requirements and we would love to come and share our experiences.
