The coffee shop functions as a regular coffee shop but with a difference! It offers work experience training for vulnerable and disadvantaged people including those with complex needs. It is also a community venue and safe place for young people, those with complex mental health needs and adults with learning difficulties who need support.

The Cavern hosts a wide range of activities including live music, games nights, and an out of hours mental health drop in.

The Cavern is open 10am-11pm 6 days a week and 4pm-11pm on a Sunday so shift work will be required.

The role is for 35 hours.

Purpose of Role

To enable people to become the best version of themselves through the provision of healthy meals, work experience training and income generation to support the wider work of Treasure Seekers.

Main Activities/Tasks

  • Setting up the kitchen ready for service, initially from a small front of house kitchen area. Long term transitioning to a larger kitchen.
  • Working with environmental health to ensure all Food Safety Processes are embedded and maintaining long term records
  • Planning and costing menus to be agreed by Directors
  • Ordering supplies within set budgets
  • Cooking and presenting meals to a high standard
  • Maintaining stock levels whilst keeping waste to a minimum
  • Listening to, and acting on, feedback from the customers
  • Maintain the cleanliness and care of equipment and working areas used in accordance with the standards required by law and the procedures laid down by the organisation
  • Working with a small team of volunteers to upskill and enable them to develop key hospitality skills
  • Any other duties as reasonably required

Training

Full training will be given during induction and on an ongoing basis. We will expect the successful candidate to have prior experience of working in a commercial kitchen.

Support

The Cavern Chef can expect to receive the following support:

  • Support from the Operations Manager in setting up processes
  • Use of a HR and H&S Platform.
  • Line Management support
  • 24/7 access to a BUPA call line run by Qualified Counsellors

Location

The Cavern, College Street, Gloucester, GL1 2NE and at various other locations as the needs of the business required
