Get involved Jobs Lighthouse Support Worker Job Description Guiding Adults with Learning Disabilities Through Development, Enablement and Enrichment The Lighthouse aims to help adults with learning disabilities discover and achieve their dreams while having fun and enjoying their community. We will help each member of our growing family to embrace and develop their own natural abilities as well as exploring new and exciting possibilities throughout Gloucestershire and beyond. The Lighthouse is a completely new style of day service! Our purpose is to combine self-directed learning with enablement, social development and fun-filled enrichment through creative use of a wide range of both in-house and community activities. We provide a guide to help each of our users live the most enhanced, fulfilling and independent lives they can. Title of Role Lighthouse Support Worker Purpose of Role To work alongside the team to support The Lighthouse students achieve their goals Main Activities/Tasks Support students with daily learning, social and independence skills to help them achieve goals To work with students on a one to one basis as well as within small groups and community activities to achieve goals To support each student with different tasks, depending on their individual needs and choices, such as learning to clean, maintaining or increasing independence and making their own choices To support students with more advanced tasks such as basic arithmetic, grammar and spelling etc. (basic Maths and English skills are required from the applicant) To not only attend, but also participate in community activities and engage the students throughout To adapt effective communication skills with each individual student, depending on their individual needs Any other duties that may be required Competencies Willing to travel within the Gloucester area with students (free bus travel provided) Ability to adapt communication style to suit individual students Basic English and maths skills (ideally GCSE but not essential) Patience and understanding A passion for skill development Ability to work as part of a team The ability to work within the policies and procedures of Kingfisher Treasure Seekers Appreciation of the ethos of Kingfisher Treasure Seekers Training Full training will be given during induction and on an ongoing basis A Lighthouse Support Worker can expect to receive the following support: Use of a HR and H&S Platform Line Management support 24/7 access to a BUPA call line run by Qualified Counsellors Requirements This role will be subject to an Enhanced DBS check and references Location Treasure Seekers Building, 46 Westgate Street, Gloucester, GL1 2NF, and various others depending on co-produced plans Hours 15 hours Overtime is usually available across the organisation.
