It was great to meet with the Anchor Panel recently, after a quiet summer, and agree to take on one definite and two possible new trainees. As a couple of our other trainees move down in hours and look towards the end of their programmes in the next few months, we look forward to some new people starting.

It is the time of year when we see more trainees (and staff) succumbing to seasonal bugs, but we are pushing through, and continue to celebrate the positive milestones as the trainees progress through the year. We use the End of Month Review to evaluate how things have gone in the month, but also to give the trainees a treat to recognise their hard work,  and to plan for the coming month.

It is such a joy to see perseverance being rewarded: one of our trainees has struggled considerably with hopelessness for several months, finding it hard to engage or to see any positives in himself. Our trainers have worked with incredible patience and creativity, and he really seems to have turned a corner recently, coming to sessions prepared, and making suggestions about how he can move forward. It would be easy to give up on trainees when they give up on themselves, but the strength of the Anchor is that we have the time to push through those difficult periods, and when someone comes out the other side, it is a real reason to celebrate!
